GEORGE TOWN – Some 25 staffers and promoters at Aeon Queensbay Mall have tested positive for Covid-19, sources told The Vibes.

The results allegedly follow a round of mass testing on the workers on Tuesday.

A promoter at Aeon Queensbay alleged that the infection originated from foreign staff working at the supermarket.

“They were handling the poultry and bread sections. One of the ladies working at the fresh vegetable section also contracted the virus.

“I took my test on Tuesday, and my results came back negative today,” the promoter said.

Because many have tested positive for Covid-19, she said staffers from other outlets have to fill in the vacant positions at the supermarket for the time being.

“I cannot confirm if any of our customers were infected because the management does not tell us these things.”

Queensbay Mall’s customer service told The Vibes that all shops remain open.

The Aeon supermarket on the lower ground level was only closed last week for sanitisation. There was no temporary closure notice for any store in the mall this week.

Aeon cannot be reached at the time of writing.
