MIRI – Part of a road leading to the Bukit Goram highlands in Kapit collapsed this morning due to hill slope failure.
Two women had a scare when the car they were travelling in plunged several metres deep into a hole caused by the cave-in.
The 6am incident occurred at Km 4 of Jalan Bukit Goram in Kapit, following incessant rain since Saturday.
A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the two women, aged 32 and 46, escaped with only minor injuries.
“We received a distress call at 6.23am concerning a car that fell through a cave-in.
“However, the two women had exited the car before firemen arrived at the scene.”
Both have been sent to Kapit Hospital for treatment.
Warning signs have been put up by the department to caution other motorists of the collapse, and technicians have been deployed by the Public Works Department to the site to undertake remedial works. – The Vibes, March 8, 2021
