MIRI – Sarawak today logs another Covid-19 fatality, bringing the death toll to 90 as the virus spreads to a logging zone in Song.
The death involves a man, who succumbed to the virus in Sibu Hospital, said the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.
“With this latest fatality, the death toll now stands at 90. The state also logs 178 fresh infections.”
Sarawak still has 29 active clusters, with a new one recorded today – the Begalak cluster.
“The new cluster originated from an index case, who is a logging camp worker. So far, 49 cases have been recorded in the camp,” the committee said.
It added that contact tracing and screening are being carried out in the camp in Song, located deep in central Sarawak.
Bintulu recorded the highest number of cases today with 35, followed by Miri (32), Sibu (27), Kuching (21), Meradong (12), Song (23) and Kapit (18), while other districts have fewer than 10.
Sibu Hospital is treating 755 Covid-19 patients, while Miri Hospital has 410; Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, 263; Bintulu Hospital, 325; Kapit Hospital, 190; Betong Hospital, 195; Sarikei Hospital, 125; Mukah Hospital, 21; Sri Aman Hospital, 20; and Limbang Hospital has three. – The Vibes, March 14, 2021
