MIRI – The standard operating procedures for Ramadan bazaars in Sibu, to operate for a month starting April 12, will be tightened to safeguard against Covid-19 infections, which have yet to cease in the district.
Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting said traders’ business hours are limited from 2pm to 8pm.
“In view of the fact that Covid-19 is still very serious, we (local council) will implement enhanced SOPs.
“Each stall can have a maximum of three persons manning it, and all of them must undergo Covid-19 screening three days prior to the start of operations.
“For customers, only two persons per family are allowed to enter the bazaar compound at any one time.
“They will not be allowed to pick food out of the trays themselves. Only the stall operators can do so and pack up the food for takeaway.”
He reminded everyone to play their part to curb the coronavirus’ spread.
Of the 101 virus deaths and 15,000 infections in Sarawak, about half were recorded in Sibu.
Ramadan bazaars were banned in the state last year at the height of the Covid-19 outbreak.
