KUALA LUMPUR – Three villages in Terengganu and one in Sabah will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) beginning tomorrow following a spike in Covid-19 cases in those areas, said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said in a statement today that the areas consisted Kg Belaoh, Kg PPRT Belaoh Baru and Kg Keruak in the Hulu Besut sub-district in Terengganu, and Kg Murni C in Nabawan, Sabah.
The EMCO in the areas will be enforced for two weeks, between April 7 and 20.
The move came after the Health Ministry conducted 58 tests and detected six cases of Covid-19 in the three villages in Terengganu.
“The ministry confirmed that the spread of the Covid-19 among residents of the three villages has a high infectivity rate.
“The implementation of EMCO is to ease the ministry’s targeted screenings on all residents to ensure there were no infections in the community.”
Similarly, he said Kg Murni C has six cases after 17 screenings were conducted.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said 95 individuals were arrested for flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures, of which 86 were issued compounds, while nine were remanded.
Among the offences recorded were, crossing state and district lines without permission (38), failure to record details on contact tracing app MySejahtera (31), activities at entertainment centres (17), failure to wear masks (eight) and not observing social distancing (one).
For Ops Benteng, he said authorities detained three undocumented people and confiscated three land vehicles yesterday.
He added that a total of 148 vessels were detected in the country’s waters based on 21 reconnaissance activities, adding that 14 undocumented migrants were turned away based on three expulsion activities. – The Vibes, April 6, 2021
