MIRI – A resurgence of Covid-19 infections is occurring in many native longhouses as Sarawak registered two more deaths, four more clusters and 445 new infections today.
Coronavirus infections detected in longhouses accounted for about 200 of these new cases, according to updated statistics from state Health Department ground teams.
This data was released by the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.
Sarawak today saw two more Covid-19 deaths, 445 fresh infections and four new clusters.
The latest fatalities bring the death toll to 180.
The deceased were a woman aged 70 at Bintulu Hospital and a man aged 75 at Serian Hospital.
The new clusters detected are Long Jegan in Beluru involving 57 pupils and teachers at a primary school, Batu 25 in Bintulu affecting 95 people in a longhouse, Sg Mas in Sebauh involving 52 longhouse folk, and Sg Nirai in Selangau involving 41 longhouse residents.
The total number of clusters in the state stands at 79, the secretariat said.
Out of the 445 new cases, Sibu district recorded 98, followed by Beluru (51), Miri (41), Mukah (40), Kuching (26), Selangau (37), Subis (11), Kanowit (12), Samarahan (22), Serian (20), Julau (12), and Limbang (10), with other districts recording under 10 cases each. – The Vibes, May 1, 2021
