KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 563 new Covid-19 cases, one of the highest daily infections so far, said the Health Ministry.

Sabah has six new clusters and two more deaths, as well as the state recorded 291 new infections.

This is followed by Penang (141), Selangor (69) and Kuala Lumpur (28).

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this has raised the active cases to 5,039 cases nationwide with cumulative cases of 16,220 cases.

“Out of the 563 new cases, Sabah recorded the highest leap with 291 cases but that is still considered low compared with 488 cases recorded yesterday.

“Penang registered another spike with 141 cases. These cases are part of the prison cluster and isolated from the community.

“Out of the 563, only one was an imported case from Indonesia and detected in Kuala Lumpur. This involves a Malaysian.”

Out of the 562 infection cases in the country, 498 involve Malaysians and 64 involve non-Malaysians. Ten of the cases were travellers returning from Sabah.

Up until noon today, there have been two reported deaths leading to a total of 159 deaths or 1% of the total cumulative cases.

At the same time, 98 cases are being treated in the intensive care unit where 29 patients require breathing assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 291 cases in Sabah, 28 are from current clusters while another four are found in a new cluster – Kolong.

Out of the 69 cases found in Selangor, 57 are from current clusters. Six are from close contact screenings, one from a new cluster – Bah Tropicana – and one is a traveller returning from Sabah while four others are detected from other Covid-19 screenings.

In Kuala Lumpur, the ministry has found three new clusters. Out of the 27 cases recorded here, 10 are from a new cluster – Baiduri, eight from the Bah Perdana cluster and four from Bah Kasturi cluster.

Other cases here include two individuals returning from Sabah, two from a close contact screening and one from the Sg Wey cluster.

He said in Negri Sembilan, which saw a spike of 12 new cases today, four were Sabah returnees. Three were from close contact screenings, two from the Buang Sayang cluster, one from Selasih cluster and two from other Covid-19 screenings. – The Vibes, October 12, 2020
