KUALA LUMPUR – The federal government’s decision to implement conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya came as a shock to the Selangor state government.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the earlier state-level National Security Council (NSC) meeting only agreed to impose CMCO in Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat and parts of Petaling district with high number of Covid-19 cases.
He added that Covid-19 cases in areas categorised as green and yellow zones, such as Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, remain under control at the moment.
“As such, the state government will send our counter proposal to the NSC immediately for the matter to be reconsidered.
“We hope all quarters will be ready with these changes to ensure we can contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic successfully,” he said in a statement today.
Amirudin’s statement came barely two hours after Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Selangor, KL and Putrajaya would be placed under CMCO beginning Wednesday until October 27.
Earlier in a tweet, Amirudin said he and his team are currently working with the NSC on the state level to come up with the standard operating procedures that will be shared with the public.

Ismail said the decision was made on the advice of the Health Ministry, due to rising Covid-19 cases.
Under the CMCO, inter-district and interstate travel will not be allowed, except for those working in other districts and states. However, they must have their work pass or employer permission letter to travel.
Ismail said all economic activities would also be allowed to carry on, with a more comprehensive NSC guideline to be released soon. – The Vibes, October 12, 2020
