KOTA KINABALU – Following the announcement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of a third nationwide movement control order (MCO 3.0) from May 12 to June 7, the Sabah government announced that will maintain its existing Covid-19 control measures – that is the conditional MCO (CMCO) – while Sarawak will announce tomorrow whether it will follow suit with the national level order.

Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said he had requested from the prime minister and the National Security Council (NSC) for Sabah to maintain the existing standard operating procedures (SOPs), to which both the latter parties agreed.

“At a meeting with the NSC this afternoon, I have requested from the prime minister to maintain the existing approach as it was effective,” he said in a short statement here tonight. “My request was accepted by both the prime minister and the NSC. Until a new directive is made, I take it that Sabah will still be under the CMCO.”

Masidi said he also agreed with further steps to tighten restrictions and controls under social activities.

In Muhyiddin’s earlier announcement on the implementation of MCO 3.0, clause Number 11 in the lockdown included that specific measures done in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan will be continued.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (DMC) chairman Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas – in a short message to the press – said that the DMC will decide on whether or not to enforce the MCO tomorrow, after which it will immediately issue a statement. – The Vibes, May 10, 2021
