KUALA LUMPUR – DAP has taken a cautious stance with regard to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today, with the party’s leaders keeping tight-lipped when asked to comment on the matter.

Several DAP central leadership members approached by The Vibes declined to speak, with only assistant national publicity secretary Zairil Khir Johari giving brief remarks.

“I hope that all parties respect the constitution, especially if there are provisions in the constitution that allow for this.

“If the provisions are met, then they must be followed through. However, we must also respect the Agong for any decision that he makes regarding the meeting.”

Questions have been raised on a possible cooperation between DAP and parties not aligned with Pakatan Harapan, with Umno potentially backing Anwar’s bid to become prime minister.

This comes after the PKR president last month announced that he has a “strong, formidable and convincing” majority to form the federal government, and that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration has effectively collapsed.

DAP immediately released a statement, saying its 42 MPs are in Anwar’s corner.

However, secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has said the party will not work with the likes of Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, a stalwart of the Malay outfit.

Zahid has said Umno and the coalition it heads, Barisan Nasional, cannot stop some of their MPs from voicing support for Anwar. – The Vibes, October 13, 2020
