GEORGE TOWN – Kelantan prince Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has been summoned to Istana Negara for an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on matters related to the political situation affecting the country.

An aide to the Gua Musang MP said the agenda is that Tengku Razaleigh will likely offer his views on the developments and possible options following PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s audience with the King at 11am today.

“I believe it is in relation to Anwar’s visit and the political situation,” the aide who declined to be named told The Vibes.

Razaleigh, 83, popularly known as Ku Li, is among the most senior statesmen in the country after former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, the aide added.

“His views and wisdom are needed at a time when the people are unhappy with politicians and the country is embroiled in a (Covid–19) pandemic.”

He stressed that the meeting with the King at 2pm was set before the palace had scheduled Anwar’s visit today at 11am.

Anwar, who is the parliamentary opposition leader, left Istana Negara at 11.30am today following the audience granted by the King.

He is now scheduled to hold a press conference at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur at 2pm.

Razaleigh is expected to shed light on whether he had submitted to the Agong a list of MPs backing him to be prime minister.

He had earlier claimed that he has a “formidable” support from the majority of parliamentarians to replace Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

Meanwhile, Bersatu’s Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali added to the intrigue with a cryptic tweet at noon.

“Baru habis kuliah matematik (Just finished mathematics lecture),” the former PKR leader said, using “kuliah” as an obvious pun to refer to Ku Li.

Ku Li’s last major political involvement was during the 2018 Umno presidential election where he came in last after securing only 30 votes from party divisions.

He had then gone up against Khairy Jamaluddin (61 votes) and victor Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (99 votes). - The Vibes, October 13, 2020
