KUALA LUMPUR – Rubbishing reports that he rejects Putrajaya’s imposition of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) on the whole of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said he merely offered alternatives to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
“(The) headlines were exaggerated. I only offered counterproposals, and did not say ‘no’ (to the CMCO),” the menteri besar tweeted.
He said this in response to an article by news portal SuaraTV, headlined “MB Bantah Keputusan Persekutuan Adakan PKPB Di Selangor” (MB Objects to Federal Decision to Impose CMCO in Selangor).
Twitter user “Azwan #RakyatJagaRakyat” asked Amirudin about the final decision on the matter.
“The authority (to make the decision) lies with the federal government, which we respect, but we have sent a counterproposal, (while) the (relevant) minister has informed that the counter-suggestion is being discussed, and we are hoping for the government’s wisdom in considering (the suggestion),” the menteri besar replied.
Yesterday, Amirudin expressed shock over the federal government’s decision to impose the CMCO in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, saying an earlier state-level National Security Council meeting agreed to have the order in force only in Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat and parts of Petaling district with a high number of Covid-19 cases.
He said the situation in green and yellow zones, such as Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, is under control.
Earlier today, Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin took Putrajaya to task for not providing the state government with access to detailed information prior to the implementation of the CMCO, which is due to come into force tomorrow.
