KUALA LUMPUR – An attempt by a rape suspect to flee Selayang Hospital yesterday failed following swift action by the police officers guarding him.
Gombak police chief Arifai Tarawe, in a statement today, said the 1pm incident saw the 39-year-old suspect, whose left hand was cuffed, jumping off the bed and running out.
However, the suspect was apprehended by two cops tasked with guarding him after a 120m chase, he said, adding that one officer sustained slight injuries in a scuffle with the suspect.
He said the suspect, who was remanded in a rape case in Sg Buloh, was admitted to hospital following a seizure on Sunday.
In another statement, Arifai said police have questioned eight individuals, aged between 18 and 55, for allegedly violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures during an Aidilfitri celebration at a residence in Kg Baru, Batu Caves here on Thursday.
He said an investigation was launched after a 16-second video of the gathering was uploaded to Instagram yesterday afternoon.
The guests were all family members living about 20m from the house where the gathering took place, said Arifai. – Bernama, May 18, 2021
