KUALA LUMPUR – Do not speculate on yesterday’s collision between two Kelana Jaya light rail transit trains near the underground KLCC station, said Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

Not long after news on the incident broke, social media began to fill with speculation and theories as to what could have caused the crash.

Several posts that have gone viral suggested an external influence at play, alleging the accident could have been a result of Malaysia’s support for Palestine.

Zainal rubbished such claims, and called on the public not to speculate.

“Nonsense, the public should not speculate such things on this matter. Give the task force room to conduct the investigation thoroughly,” he told The Vibes.

“People shouldn’t come up with their own speculations or assumptions that could cause unnecessary confusion and disturb public order.”

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said the incident is being investigated.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong today said the driver of the empty LRT train involved in the crash was heading in the wrong direction, and that initial investigations pointed to human error being the cause of the incident.
