MIRI – Among the six Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak today, one was a 41-year-old man with no history of medical complications who collapsed in his house here.

The state has lost 261 lives to the coronavirus thus far, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat.

The 41-year-old victim’s case was made known to Miri Hospital on May 21, it said.

“On May 21, the man’s family found him unconscious in his house. They alerted Miri Hospital. The man was rushed to hospital, but was confirmed dead the same day.

“He had no comorbidities. His death was today confirmed to be due to Covid-19.”

The five other victims are a 69-year-old man, who died at Miri Hospital, two men aged 79 and 81 at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, a 74-year-old man at Sibu Hospital, and an 80-year-old woman at Sri Aman Hospital.

The secretariat also reported the new Jalan Datuk Permaisuri cluster here, where 31 people tested positive after a social gathering in a residential area.

“There was a mass gathering, and 31 have been confirmed infected in the community cluster.”

Active tracing and testing are being done.

Sarawak saw 513 fresh infections today, with Miri district recording the highest at 94.

Bintulu registered 81 cases, followed by Sibu (49), Samarahan (48), Kuching (45), Kapit (30), Tatau (25), Selangau (21) and other districts (fewer than 20). – The Vibes, May 25, 2021
