KUALA LUMPUR – Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman spent 90 minutes giving his statement to police over his tweet on Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
In a Facebook Live video, the former youth and sports minister thanked cops for treating him well, and said he was called in to assist in investigations into his post questioning the Pasir Salak lawmaker for wearing a face shield without a mask during a press conference this week.
“Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob previously said it is not enough to wear only a face shield, and one should also wear a mask,” Syed Saddiq told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters after having his statement recorded.
The Muda co-founder said he is thankful that his mobile phone was not seized, but is unsure when his old phone, which was confiscated by police earlier, will be returned.
On Saturday, he questioned police’s seizure of his phone when he was questioned for about three hours at the Dang Wangi station.
Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission have also apparently taken over access to his Instagram account as part of a probe into his comments on cow milk trader A. Ganapathy’s death in custody.
For this case, Syed Saddiq is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 503B of the Penal Code.
Muda’s central executive committee called the back-to-back police investigations into the MP a form of intimidation.
“Police and the government should investigate the breach in SOPs as stated instead of continuously investigating the rakyat.
“If VIPs continue to have a lackadaisical attitude in this issue, with the authorities perceived as applying double standards, do not blame the rakyat when they are angry.” – The Vibes, May 27, 2021
