GEORGE TOWN – Opposition assemblymen Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor (Sg Dua-Perikatan Nasional) and Zulkifli Ibrahim (Sg Acheh-PN) today questioned the appointment of Datuk P. Kuvenaraju to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP), where he draws a monthly salary of RM47,600.
Zulkifli said Kuvenaraju’s appointment as non-executive director on such a high salary would burden the state-linked company.
The two reps also asked if Kuvenaraju’s appointment was legal and if the state followed the right procedures.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in his written reply, said Kuvenaraju, who has been appointed on a two-year contract beginning September 3 last year, is being paid RM47,600 a month in “special functions” allowances, RM1,000 in executive fees and RM300 in meeting allowances.
Kuvenaraju has been tasked with helping PBAPP execute its succession plan for the chief executive officer and head of planning and development roles, as well as ensure key performance indicators are met, among others.
Chow, who is chairman of both PBAPP and the company’s controlling shareholder, PBA Holdings Bhd, said Kuveneraju’s appointment as non-executive director was confirmed by the PBAPP nomination and remuneration committee on July 29 last year, and approved by PBA Holdings on August 27 the same year. – The Vibes, October 15, 2020
