MIRI – Miri Hospital is expanding its Covid-19 laboratory testing facility to be able to screen for new infections at a faster pace.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii said the project, which kicks off today, will be handed over to Miri Hospital by June 11.

“The project has four aspects of building works, amounting to a total sum of RM750,000.

“The primary objective of the project is to increase the capacity of the Polymerase Chain Reaction test at the molecular lab of the hospital from 800 to 1,400 per day.

“The secondary objective is to expedite the delivery of results to the person under investigation and person under surveillance.

“The Miri City Council has also pledged funding for this project.”

Yii also thanked the Miri Hospital team for their relentless effort in tackling the Covid-19 crisis.
