KUALA LUMPUR - A staggering 522 individuals were arrested yesterday for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO), 363 of whom were involved in activities in night clubs and pubs.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in total, 342 individuals have been issued compounds, while the remaining 180 were remanded.
Apart from those who visited night clubs, 81 were nabbed for not practicing social distancing, 36 for not wearing face masks in public places and 17 for leaving their houses in locations placed under enhanced MCO without a concrete reason.
“Additionally, 12 were arrested for failing to provide entry logs and equipment at premises, five were found operating their premises without approval, and one had left an enhanced MCO location without proper reason,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail said seven foreigners were also detained for not having valid travel documents.
180 undocumented foreigners detained
The senior minister added that under the joint Ops Benteng operation yesterday, a total of 180 illegal immigrants, five smugglers and one tekong (boat skipper) were arrested by the authorities.
Five vehicles were also seized during the operation that saw 89 roadblocks being conducted nationwide.
“The government will take stern action against any quarters attempting to enter our borders illegally, and our enforcement agencies will continue to tighten our national borders,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail said since July 24, a total of 31,227 individuals have returned to the country and undergone mandatory quarantine at 68 hotels and eight public training institutions and private education institutions.
Of this, 22,483 have been discharged and allowed to return home, 71 have been sent to hospital for treatment, while 8,673 are still undergoing confinement. - The Vibes, September 20, 2020
