KOTA KINABALU – A PKR youth leader said the recent Sabah election was the reason for the surge of Covid-19 cases and the emergence of new clusters in the state.

Training his sights on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin’s handling of the pandemic, Razeef Rakimin also took to task Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin for engineering the series of defections of assemblymen in Sabah that led to the collapse of the Warisan-led state government on July 29.

“The prime minister only comes out on television for special messages and he does not even speak of measures on how to deal with the crisis at hand,” he said last night.

“The Sabah election was held because of the bid to take power staged by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government led by Muhyiddin and aided by Hamzah.”

Razeef alleged Hamzah was aiding former chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman in enticing Sabah assemblymen to switch from Warisan to PN.

“While the Sabah government was busy trying to contain the spread of the Covid-19, they were busy trying to oust the government, causing the surge of Covid-19 cases in Sabah,” he added.

“As a result the Sabah legislative assembly had to be dissolved, paving the way for the Sabah elections. The prime minister and Hamzah must take responsibilities for what is happening in Malaysia.”

Over two-thirds of the number of Covid-19 in the nation come from Sabah, and the state also recorded the highest number of deaths from the virus with 40 fatalities. – The Vibes, October 17, 2020
