KUALA LUMPUR – City police have confirmed receiving a report from an Istana Negara representative over a letter purportedly written by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein seeking an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present MPs’ support for him as prime minister.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the report was lodged at the Brickfields district police headquarters today.
Brickfields district police chief Anuar Omar said the complainant is an Istana Negara officer.
“The complainant received a message on WhatsApp saying Istana Negara got a letter from BN on the formation of a new government,” he told Bernama.
“The complainant then checked with Istana Negara and found that the letter was not received by the palace. The complainant suspects that the stamp (on the letter) is fake.”
Anuar said the case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Yesterday, Hishammuddin’s press secretary, Mohd Hafiz Ariffin, lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station over the said letter.
He said the document is fake and being spread with the intention of tarnishing his boss’ reputation. – Bernama, June 25, 2021
