KUALA LUMPUR – Police have received a report over a letter purportedly on Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein seeking an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present MPs’ support for him as prime minister.

Wangsa Maju police chief  Ashari Abu Samah said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The case will be referred to the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department for further action,” he told Bernama today.

Earlier, Hishammuddin’s press secretary, Mohd Hafiz Ariffin, lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters over a letter addressed to the king, alleging that the Barisan Nasional treasurer-general has received enough support to become prime minister.

He said the fake letter is being shared with the intention of confusing the public.

“The fake letter is a dirty tactic by parties looking to create trouble and taking advantage of the country’s political situation currently,” he said in a statement.

The letter bears the letterhead of the BN treasurer-general with Hishammuddin’s signature, and a stamp of receipt by Istana Negara’s Management Services Department. – Bernama, June 24, 2021
