KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor exco Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud reiterated the state’s issue remains its shortage of vaccines, rather than the number of vaccination centres and their respective capacities.
Addressing her ongoing spat with National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin over the lack of vaccine supplies to Selangor, Siti said the state Health Department's records revealed that it received 1,189,350 doses as of yesterday.
“The amount of doses distributed so far is 954,051 doses. Therefore, the remaining doses in stock are 235,277 doses, equivalent to 20% of the total amount.
“The supply is expected to last for two more days if the vaccination process is to be executed at full capacity for all vaccination centres,” she said in a statement today.
Thanking the federal government, she said the Selangor Health Department is expected to receive another 60,000 doses today.
“With 73 centres in Selangor at present, it is imperative to state that the daily vaccination capacity for the state stands at 87,616 individuals. However, with the current stock of vaccines at disposal, the daily inoculation rate at the moment stands at 53,037 individuals only,” she said.
Siti added that when the upcoming Selangor Vaccine Programme is launched soon, the state will be able to hit its National Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force target mentioned by Khairy with 135,000 to 165,000 doses per day by July and August.
Her response comes after Khairy denied earlier today that vaccines are not being supplied to Selangor, saying the agreed doses delivered for this month stands at 40,000 daily.
“Selangor has to increase the usage rate of the vaccine; these allegations that vaccines have not been sent to Selangor are not true.
“The Selangor menteri besar has said that the state’s vaccination capacity is at 40,000, so we supply the doses based on that. I’m not sure where the exco got 80,000.”
He added that the plan for Selangor next month is to reach 100,000 jabs a day, and for all states to use more than 90% of their vaccine supply. – The Vibes, June 28, 2021
