MIRI – Despite turbulent weather, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department managed to deliver Covid-19 vaccines to the inundated Baram district via helicopter.

State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian thanked the teams from Sarawak Bomba and state Health Department for braving the bad weather to deliver vaccines to the rural folk.

“Rain or shine, flood or drought, no place in Sarawak is impossible for our Bomba units to reach. This is how Sarawak vaccines are being rolled out.

“The efforts by the Sarawak Bomba and Health Department are beyond extraordinary.

“Despite being unable to land due to flooding in Long Jegan, Long Teru, Ulu Teru, Long Teran, and Long Loyang, the vaccines were delivered.

“This reflects the exemplary teamwork and leadership of Khirudin Drahman, director of Sarawak Bomba,” Sim said in a Facebook post.

The helicopter unit that flew the vaccines into the flooded Baram zones was piloted by Mohd Ruzaidi Ramlee and co-piloted by Muhammad Akmaluddin Said.

They flew the vaccines from Miri into Baram yesterday.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah also offered praise.

“This joint effort by the Health Department and Bomba in Sarawak has enabled the vaccine to be delivered to remote vaccination centres, despite the huge challenges,” he said in a Facebook post.
