ALOR STAR – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has paid a RM1,500 compound for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures last month.
The fine was settled through a representative at the state health enforcement division office here last night, confirmed a Wisma Darul Aman official.
Penang police last week received instructions to issue Sanusi a compound notice over a test drive he took at Autocity Juru on June 6.
He was filmed by a passer-by, who uploaded the video online.
Vehicle dealers and exhibition centres are not allowed to operate during the movement control order aimed at curbing Covid-19.
An investigation was carried out under Section 269 of the Penal Code, and Regulation 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
Sanusi’s political secretary Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin in a Facebook post shortly after the incident said the PAS leader did not intend to go for a test drive, and had simply stopped near the showroom to get food for a trip to Kuala Lumpur to attend to an urgent matter.
Sanusi was accompanied by a driver and police officer during the trip.
Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain earlier confirmed that a summons was issued to Sanusi.
