GEORGE TOWN – An Indonesian woman pleaded guilty for being in possession of a fake MyKad, which she used for the MySejahtera app, at the magistrates’ court here today.
Zhiehara Toding, 22, who worked at a motel, was hit with two charges before magistrate R. Manomani.
For the first charge, she was accused of using the MySejahtera app as “Norsyarifah Musin” between June 24 and July 12.
For the second charge, she was charged with possessing a fake identity card with the name “Ziehara Boisi” in Lebuh Sg Pinang on July 17.
Both charges under the National Registration Regulations 1990 carry a jail term of not more than three years, or fine not exceeding RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
Zhiehara, who is believed to have illegally entered Malaysia four years ago, was not represented.
She was slapped with a RM14,000 fine, and may face seven months’ jail if she fails to pay up.
State National Registration Department (NRD) director Nur Zulfa Ibrahim said Zhiehara was arrested during an operation carried out here on July 17.
“As a result, we managed to arrest Zhiehara, who is believed to have had a fake identity card for a long time.
“Her information was recorded only as an oral statement as she does not have a passport or any official personal information.”
In the past year, she said Penang NRD has successfully prosecuted nine cases involving various offenses of false registration information, and 11 cases as of this month.
In 2019, six men, including the state NRD assistant director, were charged with 32 counts in the sessions court here in connection with a syndicate selling birth certificates and MyKad to foreigners. – The Vibes, July 22, 2021
