KUALA LUMPUR – Umno general assembly and divisional meetings set for this year have been postponed to next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the divisional meetings have been pushed to March or April, while the general assembly will likely take place in May or early June.
He added the 2019 general assembly took place on December 6 and 7 last year, so the following meeting must be held within 18 months, based on the party’s constitution.
The postponement involves 764 conferences, namely four representative meetings for each of the 191 divisions in the country.
"Since there were many gatherings that involved tens of thousands of people, if could bring about the spread of Covid-19," Ahmad Maslan said in a statement today.
Umno's administrative taskforce has resoundingly agreed with the decision, which has received the approval of the supreme council through a "circular resolution".
"The commitee members of all divisions, Women's, Youth, and Puteri (wings) on all 191 divisions are encouraged to hold welfare activities and visit those in need of help in their respective areas.
"All activities must abide by Covid-19 SOPs (standard operating procedures) that has been set by the government," he added. – The Vibes, October 22, 2020
