GEORGE TOWN – When the Covid-19 vaccine was first introduced, 77-year-old Eleanor Barbara Scully was sceptical, having concerns about its possible side effects.

But with coronavirus cases and deaths soaring, she decided to go and get the jab – complete with a home-made medicine chart in tow.

“My friend sent me a video of this woman who got the vaccine and then started shaking and shivering. Of course, I got scared.

“I also had so many people telling me not to get it because I don’t go out much anyway, and there were too many side effects to consider. However, my sister-in-law told me to just pray and go (get vaccinated).”

Due to her high blood pressure, rheumatoid and other health issues, Eleanor Barbara said she had consultations with doctors at Penang Hospital before she was allowed to get the vaccine.

“There was only one medicine that I could not take before the jab, my rheumatoid medication.

“I must say that it was a very good experience for me, though I have always been afraid to go to hospital. All of the medical staff were very attentive.”

She brought along a chart listing the 12 types of medication she was taking, with each pill taped to a piece of paper.

“When I arrived, they asked me to fill out a form, checked my pressure, checked my list of medication that I made specifically for my vaccination, and I had an interview with the doctor. After the doctor approved the Pfizer vaccine for me, I got the jab. Then, I rested for a while before my blood pressure was taken.

“Everything was good, and I went back home.”

The only side effect she experienced was a sore arm.

Her brother, Alphonsus Reginald Scully, 70, is due to be vaccinated today.

He, too, will bring along a list of medicines he is taking.

Though he has high blood pressure and diabetes, and previously suffered a stroke, he is confident about getting the shot. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
