KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has blasted the government for considering the declaration of an emergency to tackle Covid-19, saying it is akin to bombing a house to get rid of rats.

“That (declaring an emergency) is like finding rats in the attic and some parts of the house, and using a bomb to kill them. The entire house will be destroyed,” the former trade minister said in a Facebook post.

She took aim at Perikatan Nasional for its seeming willingness to issue such a call just to stay in power, and warned that it sets the country on a slippery slope, which could see Malaysia becoming a “basket case among nations”.

“Clearly, this government has run out of steam, and the ability to plan and implement policies and measures, to address not (just) Covid-19 per se, but all the impact of the pandemic on (the) people and nation.”

Suggesting that PN should step down if it is unable to face reality, she urged the government to stop politicking and start working for Malaysians.

The proposed declaration has raised the ire of many, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. – The Vibes, October 24, 2020
