KUALA LUMPUR – The current political turmoil roiling the nation is indicative of what will happen should politicians wield unchecked powers, warned Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

“The current situation is a clear indication of what will happen when the power to rule is left entirely to politicians only,” he said in a Facebook post.

“In today’s scenario, the most important thing should be prioritising the people’s welfare and ensuring that the economy continues to recover efficiently.”

The crown prince highlighted the monarchy’s important role of providing checks and balances to the government.

“May Allah bless the Malay rulers with wisdom to ensure the country’s stability and protect the country from the threats posed by those who are greedy and power-crazy.”
