MIRI – A 17-year-old boy died of Covid-19 at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching today, making him the state’s youngest coronavirus victim.
The teenager was one of the three new deaths reported in Sarawak, as announced by the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC).
The other two are a 78-year-old man, who also died at Sarawak General Hospital, and a 66-year-old man in Song district.
Today’s fatalities push up the state’s virus toll to 513.
Those yet to get vaccinated against the coronavirus have been barred from entering business premises and government departments.
The state DMC said the enhanced standard operating procedures are needed to prevent the possibility of more infections.
“We have imposed measures to try and reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the community and workplaces.
“Individuals who are not vaccinated are not allowed to enter or work on these public premises or business offices.
“This is not an infringement of human rights.The move is to protect the community at large.”
It said 87.3% of adults in Sarawak have received both vaccine doses.
“It is a matter of time before all are vaccinated.”
The state logged 2,224 new cases today.
Its capital Kuching remains in the lead with 906 infections, followed by Samarahan (210), Serian (158), Sibu (125) and other districts (below 100). – The Vibes, August 27, 2021
