KUALA LUMPUR – The unscheduled water disruption in 463 Klang Valley areas is expected to fully recover by 6am on Monday, said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).

In a statement today, its corporate communications head Elina Baseri said the Sg Semenyih water treatment plant has commenced operations following a temporary shutdown yesterday due to a recent odour pollution incident.

“Water supply for the affected areas will be distributed in stages starting at 6pm today.”

The areas affected by the water disruption are in Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54), Sepang (194), Putrajaya (23) and Kuala Langat (20).

Elina added that 94 water tankers have been mobilised to the affected areas and critical premises during the disruption.

“Air Selangor understands the consumers’ need for clean water, especially during the increase in Covid-19 cases.

“Air Selangor is making all efforts to minimise the impact of disruption to the affected consumers.”

In an earlier statement, Elina said Air Selangor was in the process of restarting the treatment process at the water treatment plant, which was halted yesterday, so clean and safe treated water can be distributed to consumers.

The move comes after zero threshold odour number (TON) level readings were recorded three times in a row at 6am today.

Yesterday, Air Selangor said the Sg Semenyih treatment plant was forced to shut down once again following another incident of odour pollution in its raw water source.

On Tuesday, those same areas faced a similar water disruption after odour pollution was detected at the Jenderam Hilir water pump station at 11.10am. – The Vibes, September 4, 2021
