KUALA LUMPUR – The unrest in Negri Sembilan PKR, which is threatening to boil over and destabilise the state government, will be among the issues taking centre stage when the party’s top leaders meet this week.
Party communications director Fahmi Fadzil said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has been summoned by the leadership to explain his position after losing the support of state chapter members.
This follows a joint statement issued by several state PKR leaders calling for a reshuffle of its line-up, claiming they have lost confidence in their chief Aminuddin.
“We will have our party meeting this week, and have requested that the menteri besar explain the situation. We will get reports from the state, discuss the matter, and find a peaceful resolution,” he told The Vibes today.
It is in no one’s interest at this point to see a change of administration in Negri Sembilan, especially with the state’s Covid-19 situation fast improving, he said.
“So far, the state appears to have turned a corner on issues concerning the pandemic, for example. Some measures taken by the government there are quite effective.
“We would like to see the state government succeeding (in the battle against Covid-19), and the leadership will have a discussion sometime this week to resolve any dispute.”
The Negri Sembilan PKR leadership in its statement yesterday said it no longer trusts Aminuddin to lead the party in the state and cited several reasons, including his failure to plan and strengthen the chapter ahead of the 15th general election.
The signatories said Aminuddin also failed to pay attention to the Women and Youth wings, and showed no effort to turn PKR into a dominant unit in Negri Sembilan.
If the situation is not resolved, they warned, the party risks losing the state come the elections.
Among the signatories are Labu assemblyman Datuk Ismail Ahmad (Rasah PKR chief), Sri Tg rep Datuk M. Ravi (Port Dickson chief), Ampangan rep Datuk Mohamad Rafie Ab Malik (Seremban deputy chief), Chuah rep Datuk Yek Diew Ching, state PKR Women chief Amni Idris, state PKR information chief Yusuf Tapar and several Youth leaders.
Asked if those who signed the statement will join the leadership’s upcoming meeting, Fahmi said the list of attendees has yet to be confirmed.
“But, I believe we will have to understand their position and the issues they have, in order to seek redress.”
Aminuddin is the second PKR menteri besar to be summoned by the party’s top leaders in as many weeks, after Selangor’s Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was called up to explain the state’s decision to degazette Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve land. – The Vibes, September 6, 2021
