GEORGE TOWN – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng will be summoned by police in an investigation into alleged standard operating procedure (SOP) violations after he completes his quarantine on September 10.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Suhaily Mohd Zain said cops will record statements of the state assembly secretary and a Health Ministry representative today.
“So far, we have received three police reports regarding the allegations and we have started an investigation.
“We have recorded all the testimonies from individuals who lodged the reports, and today we will record the testimonies of the state assembly secretary and a representative of the Ministry of Health.
“Police will call Lim in for questioning after he completes his quarantine on September 10,” he told the media today.
Penang Gerakan’s Youth wing yesterday lodged a police report against Lim, alleging that he violated his home quarantine order.
Its spokesman Mohd Aswaad Jaafar questioned how Lim could attend the state assembly sitting on September 2 when he had been ordered to undergo self-quarantine after being found to be a close contact of a Covid-19 patient.
Lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, representing Lim, told the Kuala Lumpur sessions court yesterday that his client must observe self-quarantine from September 1 to 10.
Lim faces four corruption charges linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project.
Lim in a statement today however denied violating any SOP and said he was only informed of his status as a possible close contact after attending the September 2 Penang assembly meeting. – The Vibes, September 9, 2021
