KUALA LUMPUR – A Malaysian police helicopter has apparently intruded into Singapore airspace, flying over the republic’s main isle where military and national service training is carried out.

Checks on FlightRadar24 corroborated reports that a Malaysian police aircraft flew over Tekong Island, where the Singapore army conducts basic military training.

According to reports on social media, the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter with the call sign 9M-PMD was intercepted by the Singapore air force’s F-16 jets, but this was not shown on the FlightRadar24 feed.

The chopper took off from a field opposite Jalan Yahya Aldatar in Johor Baru about 1am today and was en route to Pengerang when it flew over the nearby Tekong Island.

From Pengerang, it continued on over the South China Sea close to Malaysian shores before circling back.

The FlightRadar24 feed showed an aircraft with no call sign appearing over Changi airport as the helicopter entered the airspace above Tekong Island.

It has yet to be confirmed if the said aircraft was an F-16. – The Vibes, September 11, 2021
