KUALA LUMPUR – The government has called for the enforcement of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at three locations in Kudat, Sabah, from October 30 to November 12.
Kampung Pengaraban, Kampung Tanjung Kapur and Kampung Landong Ayang have been placed under EMCO after a surge in Covid-19 cases there, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“The EMCO will affect 2,393 houses with 13,884 residents. The standard operating procedure (SOP) in these three localities are the same as other EMCO areas,” he said.
He added, convenience stores are allowed to operate from 6am to 6pm for the residents under EMCO to buy food products, baby milk, baby diapers and other needed items.
Besides that, the conditional movement control order (CMCO) at Labuan, which was to end on October 30, has been extended another 14 days from until November 13.
Ismail Sabri said this was to allow the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screenings in the area to ensure that Covid-19 infections are kept in check.
He also said as many as 9,002 individuals are undergoing mandatory quarantine at 64 hotels and 17 other premises including public learning institutions and private learning institutions in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah and Labuan.
He added a total of 508 individuals were arrested for MCO violations.
“Of that number, 501 individuals were issued compounds, while six others were remanded and one was allowed bail,” he said.
Among the violations include not wearing face masks (160), failure to prepare tools to record details (113), social distancing (97), premises operating over time (33), activities at entertainment centres (10) and others (95).
He added that the top three states that the highest number of compounded individuals due to SOP violations are Kuala Lumpur (192), followed by Selangor (155) and Sabah (36).
“The task force will continue to improve checks and take action against premise owners and the public who do not follow SOPs,” he said. – The Vibes, October 28, 2020
