MIRI – Sarawak recorded another 26 Covid-19 deaths, despite the state government approving the reopening of several economic sectors in the state.
Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said the state is preparing to relax more restrictions in terms of movement for the people and businesses.
“We must open up more and relax restrictions to allow more entries into the state,” he told reporters in Kuching today.
Karim said the economic sectors in Sarawak need an urgent recharge, especially the tourism sector.
“We must, however, ensure all SOPs are followed while we open up in Phase 3 and beyond,” he said.
From October 1, the state’s Transport Ministry will also allow additional flights into Sarawak from other states as well as from Singapore.
In the meantime, the state today saw another 26 confirmed Covid-19 deaths, with 11 of them brought in dead from their homes.
The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the 26 latest deaths involved people aged from 47 to 82.
The deceased recorded were five from Kuching, Betong (five), Sibu (four), Sri Aman (two), Miri (one), Sarikei (four), Serian (two) and Bintulu (three).
Today, Sarawak also records 2,967 fresh infections.
Kuching recorded 759 new cases, Miri (307), Sibu (295), Serian (198), Bau (198), Bintulu (131) and other districts (several dozen cases).
