KUALA LUMPUR – The special committee looking into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim is not wasting any time with its investigation.
The committee, which sat for its first meeting yesterday, has decided to appoint a senior pathologist to assist in the probe, according to Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Wan Junaidi, who is the chairman of the committee, said the pathologist will conduct a thorough probe to examine past decisions made by the coroner’s court, findings by police investigations and other related areas.
The subcommittee of senior pathologists has been given about a month to complete its probe and prepare a report.
“It is clear that this will not be an easy case to handle and requires various levels of investigation. That is why we decided to appoint a senior pathologist to assist us on this,” he said in a statement today.
The special committee met for 1½ hours in Bukit Aman yesterday to discuss the facts and chronology of Adib’s case, with the second meeting scheduled in a month's time, upon obtaining the pathology report.
Wan Junaidi said the next course of action will be determined once the report is completed.
“The government is serious about resolving this case, which has been pending since 2018.”
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced last Saturday the cabinet’s decision to form a special committee to ensure a thorough, transparent and appropriate investigation is made into the case of late firefighter.
“The establishment of this special committee proves the government’s commitment in resolving the case involving Adib’s death,” he had said.
The committee also comprises Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun and Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani
