KUALA LUMPUR – The Umno headquarters in Menara Dato Onn is abuzz with activity ahead of a highly anticipated Supreme Council meeting to decide on several key issues.
Several Umno Supreme Council members began trickling into the building just before 8pm.
Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was among the first to arrive at 7.56pm, followed by Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at 7.59pm.
Among others seen arriving were Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
Melaka caretaker chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali and state liaison chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh arrived together at 8.23pm to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Datuk Dira Abu Zahar and Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin were seen entering the building to attend the meeting which is scheduled for 8pm.
On top of the party’s agenda are discussions over the political crisis in Melaka and whether Umno will have any political cooperation with its Muafakat Nasional partner PAS and Perikatan Nasional in the next general election.
It is understood that the Supreme Council will also deliberate the possibility of reaccepting Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Datuk Nor Azman Hassan, who were sacked for their role in collapsing the Melaka state government, to avoid further prolonging the crisis.
Idris and Azman were among the four assemblymen who withdrew support for Sulaiman last week, resulting in the dissolution of the state assembly.
On Sunday, Mazlan said Sulaiman and Rauf have also been summoned to the meeting to provide recommendations on the next course of action.
The meeting is slated to begin at 8pm, although it is uncertain whether there will be a press conference following its conclusion. – The Vibes, October 14, 2021
