KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition lawmaker Mohamad Sabu (Kota Raja-PH) questioned whether the government has conducted serious investigations into claims made by former inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador on corruption and embezzlement among politicians.
During the debate on the 2022 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat today, the Amanah president said it has been almost a year since Hamid made such allegations – however, no investigations seem to have been done thus far.
“Hamid was not just a police sergeant in Gua Musang or a corporal in Tawau. He was the IGP, and he revealed how corruption and irregularities were taking place among politicians.
“I don’t see any serious probes or any details that have been informed to Parliament.
“Was the IGP just spewing nonsense? If he was, he must be charged. This is because his claims have tarnished the image of the country and police force,” the Kota Raja MP said.
In his final press conference as the IGP, Hamid in April did not hold back and called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate political party-hoppers.
He accused these “frogs” of making graft a common practice, and that MACC should not allow defections to go unchecked.
“I fight corruption in the force, but I see it everywhere in politics. It is like our country doesn’t have laws,” he said.
In addition, Mohamad – who is popularly known as Mat Sabu – noted a report by Edisi Siasat that claimed there are police officers who have to pay a whopping RM100,000 if they wish to be promoted.
“Is this true? Even former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan said this has to be investigated immediately. If it’s slander, actions must be taken on those who make such claims. If it is true, the police’s image have been tarnished.
“Is it possible to ‘buy’ a promotion?” he questioned.
In an event hosted by National Journalism Laureate Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar in March, Hamid also revealed that there is a cartel in the force that includes younger officers conspiring to remove him.
He said the group of younger officers are masterminds of a cartel that wants to dominate the country’s security force for personal interest. – The Vibes, November 3, 2021
