Corruption okay, yet Timah whiskey not: MP slams PAS hypocrisy

KUALA LUMPUR – Khalid Samad (Shah Alam-PH) did not hold back his scathing criticism in the Dewan Rakyat today, as he highlighted what he thought were hypocrisies practised by Umno and PAS.

He took a swipe at his former party PAS over its indifference towards corruption and wastage.

“Because corruption does not fall under hudud, it’s not as important as the Timah (whiskey) issue or the sale of alcohol that is already prohibited for Muslims.

“These distorted Islamic teachings result in the buying of Mercedes cars for their state exco.

“So, corruption, abuse of power, and supporting traitors is fine – moreover, if done under the name of Malay Islam (Melayu Islam).”

On Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s death, Khalid said the matter was heavily politicised despite the authorities’ claims there were no concrete evidence showing that the fireman’s death was due to murder.

“You were willing to use a tragic incident for your political gains. Because the deceased was Malay, and those who supposedly killed him were Indians, you trumpet Ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy).

“Where was the Keluarga Malaysia spirit then?” Khalid said while debating Budget 2022.

He then questioned why the same concern was not shown towards custodial deaths, adding that detainees should be protected by the police force.

Khalid also asked if the apathy towards custodial deaths was because the reported cases were mostly Indians. – The Vibes, November 9, 2021
