KUALA LUMPUR – Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM) has announced its full closure, which will take effect on December 31.
In a post on Facebook, the statutory body, otherwise known as the Malaysian Innovation Agency, said it was in the process of closing down following the end of its mandate.
"Since our establishment in 2010, we’re proud to say we’ve played a significant role in helping jump start wealth creation through knowledge, technology, and innovation and stimulate and develop the innovation eco-system in Malaysia towards achieving Vision 2020," the agency said.
It said as the Agensi Inovasi Malaysia Act 2010 would apply for a period until December 31, 2020, the agency was "leaving satisfied that the innovation scene and spirit in Malaysia has never been better."
Formed in 2008 under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Department, the agency kicked off with a budget of RM70 million while Datuk Seri Najib Razak was prime minister.
In 2014, then CEO Mark Rozario had mentioned that AIM would cease to exist in 2020 with the hope that it had seeded innovation in both private and public sectors.
The agency had also informed all stakeholders and contacts that its general telephone line (03-83193116) would be deactivated on December 1, 2020.
