KUALA LUMPUR – Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (Raub-PH) suggested Putrajaya could emulate Hollywood hit movie Jurassic Park when implementing mechanisms to relocate wild animals that encroach on plantations.
While debating Budget 2022 at the committee level today, Tengku Zulpuri pointed out that the estimated expenditure allocated to protecting wildlife and national parks next year was valued at RM91.8 million.
He then asked if Putrajaya intends to pour more funds into controlling wild elephants that ruin plantations in villages.
“Before this, some of the elephants could be controlled using satellite collars.
“So I want to ask if the government is ready to use these collars for all wild elephants,” Tengku Zulpuri said.
Going further, the Raub MP suggested that the government could relocate wild elephants to safer areas using methods depicted in the blockbuster movie series, particularly making use of safety fences.
In the 1993 film which subsequently expanded into a multi-movie franchise, the dinosaurs were kept within the park using electrified fencing.
Additionally, he spoke about monkeys and wild boars, which similarly damage plantations.
Tengku Zulpuri suggested that financial allocations are required to control the breeding of monkeys and wild boars to prevent further destruction of plantations. – The Vibes, November 29, 2021
