LANGKAWI – The travel trade community should turn to digitalisation tie-ups to entice international travellers here, said its business association deputy president Datuk Isaac Alexander.
He told The Vibes that it is best for businesses to adopt digital platforms to increase their marketing outreach.
"I think with new Covid-19 variants emerging, it makes travelling challenging to say the least, but we must stay ahead of the curve. We must use our digital connections to better promote and explain how Langkawi is dealing with Covid-19.”
He also hopes that the authorities would use social media more vigorously to stem fake news about the travel industry.
While praising the Health Ministry for its work, he said the nature of Covid-19 means there is a constant revision of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to adapt to how the virus mutates.
So, the authorities need to use the digital platform to constantly remind the public about what are the latest SOPs and clear any confusion that may come about.
They must take to videos, digital messaging, blogging and postings instead of just relying on the official channels to communicate their efforts.
Alexander also urged both the public and private sectors to come together to help bring back foreign tourists.
“We must start to promote ourselves now, even if the Omicron variant is disrupting travel. Promotion and marketing should not stop for anything. We must constantly be online to position ourselves well in tourism.” – The Vibes, December 10, 2021
