KUALA LUMPUR – A victim in Klang of the massive flash floods that have hit the nation is suspected to have died due to electrocution.

A graphic photo of the individual’s body floating in the water has gone viral on Twitter, with the tragedy believed to have taken place in Meru, Klang.

User @Mulut_Cabai posted the picture on the social media site, while giving fair warning of its graphic content.

“TW: trigger warning: dead body. Allahuakbar. They said it’s electrocution. From the looks of it, he’s young. Location in Meru.

“Where’s the government? Only deploying at midnight. It’s too late. Damn,” said the tweet.

It is understood that the Civil Defence Department was notified of the incident last night, as confirmed by the Selangor Menteri Besar's Office’s WhatsApp group.

When contacted, Klang MP Charles Santiago said that it is extremely tough to get to certain areas in his constituency, as the bad conditions there now require four-wheel-drive vehicles and boats.

His team, who attempted to send aid to 400 families in an area of his constituency, had failed to deliver after their vehicle broke down.

“The government is very slow, and the information coming out (is very slow).

“We wanted to provide food and rescue and our vehicle broke down. Fortunately, there was a bigger lorry that passed by and helped at around 2.30am.

“That’s why I urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is now in Klang, to bring in the army and Civil Defence Department,” Santiago said during a brief conversation with The Vibes.

Early yesterday, various areas in Klang were reported to have been hit by floods, with Port Klang even suffering electricity disruptions.

The disaster continued throughout the day, as more states started reporting incidents of floods and landslides.

Throughout last night and into the wee hours of this morning, the rain continued increasing in intensity.

This resulted in further reports of floods taking in other areas such as Masjid Jamek, Kuala Lumpur, and Puchong.

Around 11pm yesterday, Ismail Sabri held a press conference urging residents to stay calm and assured flood victims that help is on the way.

However, despite his reassurances, thousands remain stranded across the greater Klang Valley area.

At the same time, the Selangor state government has evacuated 6,242 displaced victims as of 8am today and moved them to temporary shelters. – The Vibes, December 19, 2021
