KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will be postponing its 2021 annual general assembly due to the country’s flood situation.
In a statement, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the assembly, which was scheduled to be held between January 12 and 15, will be pushed back to a later date which has yet to be confirmed.
He said the decision to postpone the assembly was the collective decision of the party’s president, deputy president, management committee, and Supreme Council members.
“This is due to the flood disaster that occurred in many areas, and Umno grassroots leadership members have been asked to assist the flood victims,” Ahmad Maslan said in the statement posted on Twitter.
He said the assembly usually involved 6,000 grassroots leaders from Umno divisions, and its Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings from 191 divisions, as well as thousands of other observers from around the country.
“Umno is sharing its sadness with the people who were affected by the flood disaster and hopes the Umno machinery and Barisan Nasional, along with the federal and state governments, would continue to assist them.”
Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the floods which hit several states in the country have claimed 46 lives as at 4am today. Meanwhile, five men are still reported missing in Pahang, Bernama reported.
He said a total of 25 deaths were recorded in Selangor involving 17 men and eight women. In Pahang, 18 deaths were reported and they involved 12 men, four women and two boys. – The Vibes, December 25, 2021
