KUALA LUMPUR – Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah found it strange that the police asked about her court of choice during a questioning this morning at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
Speaking to The Vibes, she said she felt that the question was very odd, adding that she will answer it in court.
“I said, if you are charging me, then whichever court (is fine), right? I can’t choose the court I want.
“They never asked these questions before.”
She was called in to have her statement taken for attending a memorandum handover outside the Parliament building on January 20.
Maria said the police also asked for more information on what transpired that day, such as what she did there, whether she gave any speeches, what the standard operating procedures were and who the organisers were.
However, she believes this investigation to be unnecessary.
“(The investigation) is not necessary because we respect people’s rights to (hold) assemblies and (freedom of) expression. So why investigate the people?
“The questions still come back to (MACC chief) Azam Baki’s issue. First of all, for assets declaration, did he declare his assets before he joined or during his term of office?”
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said another four lawmakers – opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Mohamad Sabu and Datuk Mahfuz Omar – will be called for questioning.

He added that the case is being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
