KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) has announced that its deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, will be the party’s election director for the upcoming Johor election.

Fondly known as Tok Mat, the No. 2 will be aided by Johor BN chairman and caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Muhammad, who will be chief coordinator for the polls.

In a statement released today, the coalition’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said that the decision was made after a BN supreme council meeting yesterday.

He added that the meeting also decided that BN will be contesting in the Johor polls with its election machinery under one united logo and flag.

The previous state government led by BN had 28 state seats, with Umno holding 14, Bersatu 11, and MIC two, while opposition Pakatan Harapan held 27 seats – 14 by DAP, seven by PKR and six by Amanah.

Last Saturday, Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar agreed to dissolve the state assembly after granting an audience to now caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad.

The Election Commission will be meeting on February 9 to finalise key dates pertaining to the Johor polls, with a press conference scheduled later. – The Vibes, January 29, 2022
