KUALA LUMPUR – The opposition will help Muda win seats at the Johor polls if the youth-led party upholds the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The opposition leader said this despite Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's insistence that negotiations between the new party and PKR ended after the latter announced all of its 20 candidates for the state polls.
The PKR president, however, said the door was still open for Muda to cooperate with PH, regardless of its apparent failure to reach an agreement with PKR.
“If Muda follows the spirit of the same manifesto and resolves the negotiation problems that happened beforehand, I do not have a problem with ensuring that Muda’s candidates also win in this election,” Anwar said.
“So we will wait for their response and Insya-Allah, it will be positive because, without this spirit (of unity), we will be easily used by other people.”
Anwar said this while launching PKR’s Johor election machinery, which was aired on his official Facebook page this evening.
Earlier today, Johor PKR chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said he hoped Muda would be open to accepting the six seats it will be contesting in the election.
Meanwhile, Anwar insisted that PKR’s decision to contest in the election with its own flag instead of the PH banner with Amanah and DAP was not a major issue.
Instead, he said PKR made the decision to allow it to return to the roots of its struggle in bringing about change in the country.
The Port Dickson MP said he also understood that there may be certain concerns and confusion in relation to the decision, but not all answers provided on the matter would be convincing, even though PH has previously enjoyed success in doing so.
“The logo (issue) does not at all affect our (PKR’s) good relationship with DAP and Amanah, our friends in PH,” he said.
“This means that our relationship with DAP and Amanah must be defended although we are using our own logo.
“It is our responsibility to help our friends in PH to win the election together.” – The Vibes, February 20, 2022
