KUALA LUMPUR – Political talks (ceramah) are allowed during the campaign period for the Johor election, but must be held in the vicinity of party offices and official party operational rooms, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He then reiterated that mega or large-scale public talks have never been allowed and are still prohibited during the campaigning period of the southern state’s polls.

“Nothing has changed here. What is allowed now are ceramahs in party operational rooms or official party offices. Big ceramahs in public places are not allowed.

“Yesterday, the EC (Election Commission) announced that it has allowed for political talks to be held until midnight, with no time limit of two hours.”

Khairy said in a press conference today that the EC’s decision to extend the timing of state election political talks came after a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as well as members of the opposition bloc.

Previously, ceramahs could only be held until 10pm.

In a statement yesterday, the EC said the number of attendees must not exceed 100 people or 50% of the space capacity, whichever is lower, to ensure physical distance of at least one metre between each other, with masks.

The number, the EC said, includes the organisers, speakers and participants. – The Vibes, March 3, 2022
